The Rio - Antirrio Bridge or, officially, the "Charilaos Trikoupis" Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, it was built by the French company Vinci, completed, and put into function in 2004. Through the bridge was achieved both the connection between Rio (a suburb of Patras) and Antirrio (Region Unit of Etoloakarnania) as well as the connection of the Peloponnese with the western mainland also upwards and broadly with the rest of Europe. It is part of the Ionian Road (A5) and of the European Road 55 (E55). The length of the bridge, which is based on four pillars, amounts to 2,252 meters, while together with the accesses it reaches around 2,883 meters.
